Abstract:【Objective】 To explore the effect of retrograde catheterization via Eustachian tube and bromhexine hydrochloride injection on secretory otitis media (SOM). 【Methods】 A total of 56 cases(89 ears) with SOM were involved in this study. They accepted retrograde catheterization via Eustachian tube, 37℃ normal saline rinsing, bromhexine hydrochloride injection and observation. The ear muffled, tinnitus, eardrum, hearing loss in different frequencies and relationship with the course of disease were observed. 【Results】 After treatment for one to three times, 59 of 89 ears were cured (66.4%), 15 ears were improved (16.8%) and no effect was observed in 15 ears (16.8%). The cure rate was 66.4% and the overall effective rate was 83.2%. Cure rates was higher in the ears with the course of disease less than half a year. Cure rates and overall effective rates decreased after repeated treatment. 【Conclusion】 Retrograde catheterization via Eustachian tube combined with tympanic cavity irrigation and bromhexine hydrochloride injection is effective on SOM.
