Abstract:【Objective】 To investigate the relationship between the incidence of postoperative constipation and the operation site and operation mode for colorectal cancer. 【Methods】 The data of 132 cases, who received colonoscopy after surgery for colorectal cancer from June 2004 to July 2005, were retrospectively analyzed. 【Results】 The postoperative constipation rates of radical right hemicolectomy, radical left hemicolectomy, radical sigmoidectomy and rectal anterior resection were 4.00%, 6.25%, 11.11% and 32.88%, respectively. The postoperative constipation rates of upper-site group, lower-site group and ultralower-site group were 20.00%, 26.32% and 41.03%, respectively (P <0.05).The postoperative constipation rates of large-size anastomat group and small-size anastomat group were 28.57% and 35.56%, respectively (P <0.05). 【Conclusion】 Postoperative constipation mainly appears in the patients with rectal cancer, especially in those with ultralower-site rectal cancer. The constipation rate is higher in small-size anastomat group than in large-size anastomat group.
