Abstract:To summarize the clinical, endoscopic characteristics of pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (PCI) to improve the understanding of this rare disorder. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 10 patients with PCI, including the clinical and endoscopic features and therapeutic effects and the causes of misdiagnosis. Results All the patients were diagnosed by colonoscopy, and the lesions were mainly located in the ascending colon and transverse colon. The cysts appear as grape-like clusters along the wall of the colon in plain radiography and abdominal CT. After treatment with oxygen inhalation, intestinal probiotics and endoscopy, symptoms of all the patients were significantly relieved. Conclusion PCI is a rare disease and the symptoms are lack of characteristics, such as abdominal pain, diarrhea and abdominal distension. Using injection needle under endoscopy to puncture the gas in the vesicle is an effective treatment.
