Abstract:To assess the clinical efficacy of arthroscopic treatment for popliteal cysts with anterior approach and posteromedial approaches. Methods From January 2013 to August 2018, 100 patients with popliteal cysts were assigned into three groups according to different surgery methods. Group A, included 37 patients [17 males and 20 females, mean age (54.49 ± 8.32) years], underwent arthroscopic resection with anterior approach and posteromedial approaches; Group B, included 30 patients [12 males and 18 females, mean age (54.23 ± 8.21) years], underwent open excision after arthroscopic treatment; Group C, included 33 patients [16 males and 17 females, mean age (53.7 ± 10.11) years] ,underwent open excision. All the patients were estimated by follow-up. The following parameters were compared: the visual analog scale (VAS) for pain, the Lysholm score, Rauschning and Lindgren classification, the time of surgery, the length of incision, the incision healing rate, the hospitalization time, the recurrence rate. Results Group A exhibited better outcomes compared to group B and C in the the postoperative VAS score, the hospitalization time, the postoperative Lysholm score, the incision healing rate, length of incision. The recurrence rate in group A and B is lower than group C; The time of surgery is significantly lower in group A and C than group B. Conclusion Arthroscopic treatment for popliteal cysts with anterior approach and posteromedial approaches is a method worthy of clinical promotion.
