Abstract:Abstract: Objective To assess the level of anxiety and its influencing factors in patients undergoing gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Methods 118 patients were scheduled to undergo sedation for gastroscope and colonoscopy were studied. Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) was administered to each patient before brought to the endoscopy room. Demographic data of patients were collected univariate analysis and Multivariate Logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the influencing factors of anxiety in patients undergoing gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Results The levels of anxiety of patients undergoing sedation for elective gastroscope and colonoscopy were higher than that of domestic norm (P < 0.01). Univariate analysis showed that the anxiety degree of male patients was significantly lower than that of female patients, that of non-comorbidity patients was lower than that of comorbidity patients, and that the anxiety degree of patients with education degree above junior college was lower than that of patients with education degree from primary school to high school. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis revealed that comorbidity and gender were the main factors influencing anxiety in patients undergoing gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Conclusions We think that level of anxiety in patients who will undergo gastroscope and colonoscopy was effected by presence of comorbidities and gender, but was not effected by features such as age, procedure type .
